Reliance Industries Gets Green Signal for ₹70,000 Crore Mega Expansion at Jamnagar Refinery
Jamnagar: Reliance Industries Limited has received approval for a massive expansion of its Jamnagar refinery complex in Gujarat, marking one of the largest industrial investments in India in recent years. The proposed expansion, estimated at ₹70,000 crore, will focus on the production of high-value chemicals, sustainable products, and raw materials for green industries.
The Jamnagar refinery, already the world’s largest refining complex, will undergo significant technological upgrades aimed at aligning with global energy transition goals. According to industry sources, the project will enhance value-added downstream operations while supporting India’s long-term vision for cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
Mega Township Project to Support Workforce
Alongside the refinery expansion, Reliance Industries has also announced the development of a large-scale residential township near the refinery premises. Spread across over 450 acres, the township will include approximately 7,900 residential units housed in G+12 residential blocks, capable of accommodating nearly 36,000 residents.
The township project, with an estimated investment of ₹6,500 crore, is expected to be completed within 24 months. It will provide modern housing and civic amenities for employees and associated workforce, further strengthening infrastructure in the region.
Boost to Employment and Gujarat’s Economy
The twin projects are expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a major boost to the local economy of Jamnagar and the state of Gujarat. Experts believe the expansion will reinforce Gujarat’s position as a global hub for energy, chemicals, and sustainable industrial manufacturing.
Industry analysts also see this move as a strategic step by Reliance Industries to diversify its energy portfolio while maintaining global leadership in refining and petrochemicals.
With this landmark investment, Reliance Industries continues to play a pivotal role in India’s industrial growth story, reinforcing the country’s march toward innovation, sustainability, and economic self-reliance.
