Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and several districts across Karnataka following forecasts of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds over the next few days. The weather warning has prompted authorities to remain on alert as many regions continue to witness unstable climatic conditions.

According to weather officials, Bengaluru experienced intense rainfall in several parts of the city, leading to waterlogging on major roads, slow-moving traffic, and disruptions during peak travel hours. Areas prone to flooding reportedly witnessed accumulation of rainwater, affecting daily commuters and causing inconvenience to office-goers, students, and motorists.

The IMD has advised residents in Bengaluru, coastal Karnataka, Malnad regions, and interior districts to exercise caution during thunderstorms and heavy rain activity. Strong winds and lightning are also expected in some regions, with officials warning people to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and to remain alert near trees, electric poles, and waterlogged areas.
Civic authorities and disaster management teams have reportedly been instructed to monitor vulnerable locations and ensure emergency response systems remain active. BBMP officials in Bengaluru stated that teams have been deployed to clear clogged drains and attend to waterlogging complaints in sensitive zones.

Weather experts believe the rainfall activity is linked to changing pre-monsoon atmospheric conditions over South India, with several districts likely to continue receiving moderate to heavy showers in the coming days. Farmers in parts of Karnataka have welcomed the rainfall, while urban residents expressed concern over recurring flooding and traffic congestion during sudden downpours.
