Jaishankar Meets Sri Lanka’s JVP Leader Tilvin Silva, Reaffirms India’s Support

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Thursday held a warm and constructive meeting with Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Mr. Tilvin Silva and his delegation from Sri Lanka, underscoring India’s commitment to further strengthening its close ties with the island nation.
During the interaction, both sides discussed avenues for deepening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on economic growth opportunities and social welfare initiatives that would benefit the people of Sri Lanka. Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the longstanding and people-centric relationship between the two countries.

The External Affairs Minister reiterated that India has consistently stood by Sri Lanka, particularly during its recent economic crisis. He also recalled India’s timely support in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused widespread damage in parts of Sri Lanka.
Emphasizing India’s foreign policy approach under the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and the Vision MAHASAGAR, Dr. Jaishankar stated that India will continue to act as a true and trusted partner for Sri Lanka in times of need as well as in its journey toward sustainable development.
The meeting reflected the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen regional stability, cooperation, and mutual prosperity through close political dialogue and people-to-people engagement.
