Indian Railways Deploys Humanoid Robot ‘ASC Arjun’ at Visakhapatnam Station

Visakhapatnam: In a major step toward modernizing railway infrastructure, Indian Railways has introduced a humanoid robot named “ASC Arjun” at Visakhapatnam Railway Station. The initiative marks a significant move toward integrating advanced technology and artificial intelligence into passenger services and station management.

The humanoid robot has been deployed to assist passengers with information, manage crowd movement, support security personnel, and deliver announcements in multiple languages. Equipped with AI-driven features, ASC Arjun is designed to improve passenger experience while enhancing safety and operational efficiency at busy railway stations.

Railway officials stated that the robot can guide travelers, respond to basic queries, and help authorities monitor crowded areas, especially during peak travel hours. Its multilingual capabilities make it particularly useful in a diverse country like India, where passengers speak different languages.

The deployment of ASC Arjun aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision of developing smart railway stations using modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation. Officials believe such innovations will help reduce workload on staff while ensuring smoother and safer operations.
While the robot is currently being tested at Visakhapatnam Railway Station, successful implementation could lead to similar deployments at other major stations across the country in the future.

This initiative reflects India’s growing focus on adopting next-generation technologies under the ‘Digital India’ and ‘Make in India’ programs, reinforcing the nation’s position in AI-driven public infrastructure.
