Bengaluru Metro Plans 16-km Pink Line Extension from KR Puram to Hoskote

Bengaluru, January 2026: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is exploring a proposed 16-kilometre extension of the Pink Line from KR Puram to Hoskote, aimed at strengthening public transport connectivity in the rapidly expanding eastern suburbs of the city. The project is currently at a preliminary planning stage, with construction yet to commence.

Feasibility Study in Progress
As part of the initial process, BMRCL has commissioned a feasibility study to assess the technical and financial viability of the proposed corridor. The study is being carried out by Delhi-based Introsoft Solutions Pvt Ltd and will examine factors such as traffic demand, potential station locations, estimated construction costs, and long-term sustainability.

Based on the study’s findings, BMRCL is expected to move forward with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and conducting geo-technical surveys. Officials clarified that metro operations on this stretch are not expected in the near future, as the project remains at a conceptual stage as of late January 2026.

Double-Decker Metro and Flyover Concept
One of the key features of the proposed extension is a double-decker design that integrates a metro line and a flyover on a single structure. This innovative approach is intended to optimise limited urban space, reduce land acquisition challenges, and help address increasing traffic congestion along the busy KR Puram–Hoskote corridor.

Proposed Alignment and Stations
The planned alignment is expected to cater to areas witnessing rapid infrastructure and real estate development, driven by major projects such as the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway and the proposed Satellite Ring Road. The new plan marks a shift from an earlier proposal that sought to connect Whitefield with Hoskote, allowing for better integration with existing metro lines.

According to preliminary plans, the corridor will include 11 stations: KR Puram, ITI Bhavan, TC Palya Gate, Bhattarahalli, Medahalli, Avalahalli, Grey Cross (likely Budigere Cross), Katamnallur Gate Flyover, Hoskote Toll Plaza, KEB Circle, and Government Hospital, Hoskote.

Boost to Connectivity and Urban Growth
The proposed extension is expected to significantly reduce commute times for residents of Hoskote, who currently rely on distant metro stations such as Whitefield (Kadugodi) and Benniganahalli. Officials believe the project will ease road congestion, improve last-mile connectivity, and support sustainable urban growth in Bengaluru’s eastern outskirts.

Further clarity on project timelines, funding, and implementation is expected once the feasibility study is completed and the DPR is finalised.
