Assembly Majority Secured: DK Shivakumar Affirms Support of All 136 MLAs, Dismisses Leadership Change Rumors
Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Tuesday asserted that the Congress government in the state remains stable, claiming the support of all 136 party MLAs in the Legislative Assembly. He categorically dismissed ongoing speculation about a possible change in the Chief Ministership, terming such reports as baseless and politically motivated.
Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said the Congress Legislature Party is united and firmly stands behind the current leadership. “All 136 MLAs are together. There is no confusion or division within the party. The government is strong and stable,” he stated.
Rumors regarding a potential leadership change had gained momentum in recent days, with opposition parties alleging internal differences within the ruling Congress. However, Shivakumar rejected these claims, emphasizing that the party high command and state leadership are working in coordination.
He further added that the government’s focus remains on governance and fulfilling the promises made to the people of Karnataka. “Our priority is development and implementation of our guarantees. There is no question of instability,” he said.
Political observers believe Shivakumar’s remarks are aimed at putting an end to speculation that could affect the government’s image. The Congress had secured a decisive mandate in the 2023 Assembly elections and currently holds 136 seats, comfortably above the majority mark in the 224-member House.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also maintained that the government will complete its full term. Senior party leaders have reiterated that there is no proposal under consideration to alter the current leadership arrangement.
With the Congress leadership publicly displaying unity, the party appears keen to project stability and counter opposition narratives ahead of upcoming political developments in the state.
