Born on May 11, 1992, in Mumbai into a Tamil Brahmin family, she comes from a disciplined and artistic background—her father served as a Merchant Navy captain, while her mother is a classical dancer.
She made her acting debut with the Hindi horror film 1920 in 2008, earning critical acclaim and a Filmfare Award nomination for her performance. Over the years, she has demonstrated her range in both Hindi and Telugu cinema, with notable roles in films like Hasee Toh Phasee, Heart Attack, and Kshanam.
Her popularity saw a major rise with The Kerala Story in 2023, a film that sparked widespread discussion across the country. In 2024, she impressed audiences with her portrayal of a determined police officer in Bastar: The Naxal Story. Expanding her digital footprint, her web series Rita Sanyal premiered on Disney+ Hotstar the same year.
