India–Japan Talks Focus on Energy, Health and Maritime Security
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Tuesday said that over the past two decades, India and Japan have successfully transformed their relationship from a primarily economic engagement into a comprehensive and strategic partnership. Dr. Jaishankar made these remarks during the opening session of talks with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, held in New Delhi today.
Highlighting the growing convergence in strategic outlooks, the External Affairs Minister noted that India’s MAHASAGAR initiative and its Vision for the Indo-Pacific closely align with Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific outlook. He emphasized that this shared vision has strengthened cooperation across political, security, and developmental domains.
Dr. Jaishankar further stated that both sides are keen to advance discussions on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues. These include enhancing supply chain resilience, cooperation in critical minerals, and expanding collaboration in key sectors such as energy, health, and maritime security.
The talks reflect the increasing importance both nations attach to their partnership amid evolving regional and global challenges, underscoring a shared commitment to stability, prosperity, and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region.
