US Issues Urgent Advisory Urging Citizens to Leave Iran Amid Rising Tensions
Washington/Tehran:
The United States Virtual Embassy in Iran has issued an urgent security advisory, calling on American citizens to leave Iran immediately as regional tensions continue to escalate. The warning cites a rapidly deteriorating security environment marked by increased surveillance, road closures, internet disruptions, and widespread flight cancellations.
In the advisory, US officials cautioned that American nationals in Iran face heightened risks, including the possibility of detention, questioning, or arrest. The statement emphasized that US citizens should not rely on government assistance to facilitate their departure due to the absence of a formal US diplomatic presence in Tehran.
“There is limited ability to provide emergency or consular services to US citizens in Iran,” the advisory noted, underscoring that Switzerland continues to act as the protecting power for US interests, though its capacity is also constrained under current conditions.
Authorities further warned that travel routes may close without notice and that communication networks could be restricted, making it increasingly difficult for foreign nationals to arrange safe exit plans. Commercial flight availability has reportedly become unpredictable, adding to the urgency of the advisory.
For American citizens unable to leave Iran immediately, officials recommended staying in a secure location, avoiding public gatherings, limiting travel, and maintaining a low profile. The advisory also urged individuals to remain alert to local developments and prepare contingency plans in case the situation worsens.
The warning comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with concerns growing over regional stability and the safety of foreign nationals.
The US government has repeatedly advised its citizens against traveling to Iran, maintaining a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” designation due to the risks of terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and arbitrary detention.
