Ukraine Nationals Arrested in India – NIA Investigates Cross-Border Security Threats
New Delhi / Lucknow | March 2026:
In a major security operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested six Ukrainian nationals along with one US citizen on March 13, 2026. The arrests were made at multiple airports, including Delhi, Lucknow, and Kolkata, and are part of a probe into alleged cross-border illegal activities near the India–Myanmar border.
Authorities allege that the group may have illegally entered restricted areas in Northeast India, trained ethnic armed groups in drone warfare, and possibly maintained connections with international networks linked to insurgency. Some of the arrested individuals are reported to have prior combat experience, which has raised national security concerns.
The government of Ukraine has requested consular access and emphasized a fair investigation, denying any involvement of its citizens in unlawful activities.
The accused remain in NIA custody, and investigations are ongoing under relevant Indian laws, with authorities stressing that the case is being handled in accordance with legal and international protocols.
