Tamil Nadu to Establish Pet Parks in Chennai and Coimbatore with Private Participation

Chennai: In a significant move aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership and fostering compassion towards animals, the Tamil Nadu Government has announced plans to establish and maintain dedicated pet parks in Chennai and Coimbatore through private participation.

The initiative is designed to create public awareness about safe pet care practices and encourage humane handling of animals. The proposed pet parks will serve as recreational and educational spaces for pet owners and animal lovers.

To implement the project, the Government has invited applications from private charitable organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and animal welfare organisations with prior experience in the field of animal care and welfare.

Selected organisations will be granted permission to develop and maintain the allotted spaces using their own funds. They will be responsible for setting up essential facilities such as play equipment for pets, landscaped green lawns, pet food and supply shops, training equipment, and informative handbooks outlining rules and guidelines for pet owners.

Interested organisations can download the application form and detailed guidelines from the official website of the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board at www.tnawb.tn.gov.in. Completed applications must be submitted on or before the 26th of this month.

The initiative is expected to enhance urban pet infrastructure while strengthening awareness about responsible and compassionate pet ownership across the State.
