RCB Changes Hands in Landmark Deal; Vijay Mallya Shares Nostalgic Message
Hind Samachar News | March 2026:
In a major development in the world of cricket and sports business, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been sold to a consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group for a staggering $1.78 billion, marking one of the biggest franchise deals in Indian Premier League history.
Former owner Vijay Mallya reacted to the news with a nostalgic message, congratulating the new owners on the successful acquisition. Reflecting on the journey, Mallya recalled purchasing the franchise in 2008 for ₹450 crore during the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League.
RCB, one of the most popular and widely followed teams in the league, has built a massive fan base over the years, despite falling short of securing an IPL title. The franchise has featured some of the biggest names in cricket and continues to be a major commercial and sporting brand.
The acquisition by the Aditya Birla Group is expected to usher in a new era for RCB, with fresh investments, strategic direction, and renewed ambitions to achieve on-field success. Industry experts view the deal as a reflection of the growing valuation and global appeal of IPL franchises.
With this high-profile transition, all eyes will now be on how the new ownership shapes the future of RCB in the upcoming seasons.
