Ramalinga Reddy Urges CM to Confer Karnataka Ratna on Freedom Fighter Dr. Bhimanna Khandre
Bengaluru, February 11: Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Wednesday said he will request Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to award the prestigious Karnataka Ratna to veteran freedom fighter and former MLA Dr. Bhimanna Khandre. The Karnataka Ratna is the state’s highest civilian honour.
Addressing a preliminary meeting of the Loknayak Centenarian Dr. Bhimanna Khandre commemorative programme held at Hotel Maurya Hall, Reddy lauded Khandre’s decades-long service to the state as a legislator and minister. He described Khandre as a dedicated leader whose contributions to Karnataka remain significant.

Recalling Khandre’s tenure as Transport Minister, Reddy said he had taken several initiatives for the development of public infrastructure, including improvements at the Shivajinagar bus stand. “His contribution to Karnataka is immense,” Reddy stated.
The Minister further noted that during the freedom struggle, the British had confiscated Khandre’s property owing to his active participation in the movement. He also credited Khandre with playing a key role in the unification of Karnataka, particularly in the Bidar region, where Kannada language and culture continue to thrive due to his efforts.

Reddy emphasised that honouring Dr. Khandre with the Karnataka Ratna would be a fitting tribute to his lifelong service and sacrifices for the state and the nation.
