Raghav Chadha Raises Telecom Billing Concern in Parliament

New Delhi | March 13, 2026:

Raghav Chadha has raised concerns in Parliament over a telecom billing practice that affects millions of prepaid mobile users across India.

Speaking during the session, Chadha pointed out that many telecom operators advertise “monthly” recharge plans that actually last only 28 days instead of the usual 30 or 31 days in a calendar month. Due to this system, prepaid users are required to recharge 13 times in a year instead of the expected 12 times.

According to Chadha, this practice quietly increases the annual spending of consumers without many users even realizing it. He highlighted that with nearly 125 crore prepaid mobile subscribers in the country, the additional recharge cycle places a significant financial burden on millions of people.

Chadha urged the government and telecom regulators to examine the issue and ensure greater transparency in telecom pricing. He suggested that so-called monthly plans should ideally align with actual calendar months to protect consumer interests.

The matter has sparked a wider debate about fairness and transparency in telecom billing practices, with consumer rights advocates calling for clearer regulations to prevent hidden costs for users.
