PM Narendra Modi Reaffirms India’s Commitment to Wildlife Conservation on World Wildlife Day

New Delhi | March 4, 2026:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to wildlife conservation on the occasion of World Wildlife Day.

In a social media post, the Prime Minister described World Wildlife Day as an opportunity to celebrate the planet’s remarkable faunal diversity that sustains ecosystems and enriches life on Earth. He also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of conservationists, forest officials, researchers, and volunteers working tirelessly to protect wildlife.

Mr. Modi reiterated India’s commitment to conservation, sustainable practices, and habitat protection to ensure that the country’s rich biodiversity continues to thrive for generations to come.

Highlighting India’s achievements in wildlife protection, the Prime Minister noted that the country is home to over 70 per cent of the world’s tiger population. He said India also has the largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros and the highest number of Asiatic elephants globally.

Emphasising key initiatives undertaken by the government, Mr. Modi pointed to the establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance, describing it as a unique global platform for sharing best practices in big cat conservation with other nations.

He further mentioned targeted conservation programmes for species such as the Great Indian Bustard, Gharial, and Sloth Bear, along with efforts to reintroduce cheetahs into suitable habitats in India.

The Prime Minister’s message underscored India’s growing role in global wildlife conservation and its continued focus on protecting endangered species and preserving natural habitats.
