Shivamogga: Health authorities have intensified monitoring and precautionary measures following the reporting of multiple Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) cases across parts of Shivamogga district, including areas connected to Sagara taluk. The developments have raised fresh concerns among residents living in forest and semi-forest regions of the Malnad belt.

Officials from the Health Department stated that surveillance activities have been strengthened in vulnerable villages located near forest boundaries, where the risk of tick-borne infections remains high. Medical teams are reportedly conducting awareness drives, monitoring fever cases, and advising people to avoid unnecessary movement inside dense forest areas.

KFD, commonly known as “Monkey Fever,” is a viral disease transmitted through infected ticks and is considered a recurring seasonal health concern in parts of Karnataka’s forest regions. Symptoms may include high fever, severe body pain, headache, weakness, vomiting, and bleeding complications in severe cases. Authorities have urged residents, forest workers, farmers, and travelers entering forest zones to take proper preventive measures.

Health officials have advised people to wear full-sleeve clothing, use tick repellents, and immediately seek medical attention if symptoms such as persistent fever or body pain develop after visiting forested areas. Vaccination drives and awareness programmes are also being carried out in high-risk locations to reduce the spread of infection.

Local residents have expressed concern over recurring outbreaks and are urging authorities to strengthen medical preparedness in rural areas. Officials, however, have assured that the situation is being closely monitored and that necessary preventive and emergency healthcare measures are in place across affected regions.
