Shivamogga: Strong public outrage has emerged against Ravi Wines and Chennambika Wines located on Sri Bangarappa Road in Gopalagowda Layout. In response, the Karnataka Human Rights Committee has urged the Excise Department to take strict action.

⚠️ Public Concerns
Although local residents had opposed the opening of these liquor shops from the beginning, the situation worsened after Ravi Wines started operations. Drunk individuals are frequently seen consuming alcohol by the roadside, making it difficult and unsafe for women and the general public to pass through. Due to this, residents have reportedly started referring to “Sri Bangarappa Road” as a “Drunkards’ Road.”

🏛️ Discussion with Authorities
A delegation led by State Vice President Pradeep Mittal met Excise Deputy Commissioner Vishwanath, Deputy Superintendent Naushad Khan, and other officials to discuss the issue.

🚫 Allegations of Rule Violations
It has been alleged that although these liquor shops hold CL-2 (parcel-only) licenses, they are allowing on-site consumption in coordination with nearby hotels. This is considered illegal, and the committee has demanded strict action against those responsible.

✅ Assurance from Excise Department
Responding to the concerns, excise officials assured that immediate steps would be taken to ban the sale of glasses, side dishes, and water bottles near the shops, and strict measures would be enforced to prevent alcohol consumption in nearby hotels.
