Modi Sets Historic Record as Longest-Serving Elected Head of Government in India

New Delhi | March 2026:
In a significant political milestone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving head of an elected government in India, completing an impressive 8,931 days in office. This remarkable achievement combines his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and his ongoing service as Prime Minister since May 26, 2014.

With this feat, Modi has surpassed the previous record held by Pawan Kumar Chamling, who served as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for 8,930 days between December 1994 and May 2019.

The milestone highlights Modi’s long-standing presence in Indian politics and his continued leadership at both the state and national levels. His tenure has seen major policy decisions, electoral victories, and a significant influence on the country’s political landscape.

Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and supporters across the country have lauded the achievement, calling it a testament to his leadership and public support over the years.

As Modi continues his term in office, this record further cements his position as one of India’s most enduring political figures in modern history.
