Missile Strike Near US Fifth Fleet Base in Bahrain Escalates Regional Tensions

Manama: Tensions in the Gulf region intensified after smoke was seen rising near the headquarters of the United States Fifth Fleet in Manama following reported Iranian missile and drone strikes.

According to regional security sources, the attack was part of a broader wave of retaliatory strikes targeting U.S. military installations across the Gulf. The naval facility in Bahrain, operated by the United States Navy, plays a key strategic role in overseeing maritime security operations in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea and surrounding waters.

Bahraini authorities confirmed that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the affected area. The Bahrain National Communication Centre stated that security protocols were activated to ensure public safety, though detailed information regarding casualties or structural damage has not yet been officially disclosed.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly claimed responsibility for the broader missile and drone offensive, describing it as retaliation amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. Several Gulf nations have reported intercepting projectiles, while air defence systems remained on high alert throughout the region.

The incident marks a significant escalation in the already volatile regional situation, raising concerns about further military confrontation and its potential impact on civilian infrastructure, international shipping routes, and global oil markets.

Authorities in Bahrain have urged residents to remain calm and follow official advisories as assessments continue. The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic channels reportedly active to prevent further escalation.
