Leema Rose Martin to Launch New Political Party in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Leema Rose Martin, wife of businessman Santiago Martin—widely known as the “Lottery King”—is set to launch a new political party in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant development ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Leema Rose Martin recently resigned from her position as joint general secretary of the Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK), ending her long association with the regional outfit. Sources close to her say the decision followed internal differences and her desire to establish an independent political platform.

According to political insiders, the new party is expected to focus on social welfare, women’s empowerment, healthcare access, and youth development. Though the party’s name and official launch date have not yet been formally announced, preparations are reportedly underway in Coimbatore and other parts of the state.

There are also indications that the new outfit could align with a major opposition alliance in Tamil Nadu, depending on seat-sharing negotiations and political strategy in the run-up to the polls.

The Martin family has been influential in business and public life for decades. Santiago Martin heads a major lottery and gaming enterprise with operations across several states. Leema Rose Martin has been involved in philanthropic initiatives, particularly in healthcare and community welfare activities in western Tamil Nadu.

Political observers believe her entry with a dedicated party structure could add a new dimension to Tamil Nadu’s competitive political landscape, especially in constituencies where smaller parties often play a decisive role.

An official announcement regarding the party’s launch and its core leadership team is expected soon.
