Jaishankar Engages with BRICS 2026 Sherpas, Highlights Forum’s People-Centric Vision
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Wednesday interacted with BRICS 2026 Sherpas and country representatives, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening the grouping as it marks two decades of cooperation.
In a social media post following the meeting, Dr. Jaishankar noted that as BRICS completes 20 years, it has emerged as a valuable forum for international cooperation, consultation and coordination. He emphasized that the platform continues to advance a people-centric agenda aimed at addressing global challenges and promoting inclusive development.
The Minister appreciated the suggestions and perspectives shared by various delegations during the interaction. He underlined that these inputs would play a crucial role in shaping and advancing the priorities of BRICS 2026, which include resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of collective efforts in strengthening multilateralism and ensuring that the voices of emerging economies are effectively represented in global decision-making processes.
The meeting assumes significance as BRICS — comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, along with new members — completes 20 years of its formation, reflecting on its journey and setting the agenda for the future.
India has consistently advocated for deeper collaboration within the grouping, focusing on development, economic growth and addressing pressing global issues through coordinated action.
