India’s Largest Green Hydrogen Plant to Come Up at Panipat Refinery
Panipat, Haryana: In a major boost to India’s clean energy transition, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has finalized plans to set up one of the country’s largest green hydrogen plants at its Panipat Refinery in Haryana. The project is targeted for completion by December 2027.
The proposed plant will have a production capacity of 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, placing it among the largest green hydrogen projects in India. The hydrogen will be produced using renewable energy sources, ensuring minimal environmental impact and significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Green hydrogen is considered a key fuel for the future as it emits only water vapor when used, making it a clean alternative to conventional fossil fuels. At the Panipat Refinery, the green hydrogen will be utilized in various industrial processes, helping to lower the refinery’s carbon footprint.
Officials say the project aligns with India’s national goals of achieving energy security, promoting sustainable industrial growth, and moving towards net-zero emissions. It also supports the government’s initiatives such as Make in India and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The establishment of this plant marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward a cleaner, greener, and more self-reliant energy future.
