Indian Startup Achieves Major Milestone in Global Space Innovation
Bengaluru: In a significant boost to India’s space technology ambitions, Bengaluru-based spacetech startup Akashlabdhi has successfully conducted a ground test of its inflatable space habitat prototype, Antariksh HAB, in Switzerland. The test was carried out with technical support from the European Space Agency (ESA).
AntarikshHAB is designed as a next-generation space habitat that can be launched in a compact form and expanded once deployed in space. This innovative approach allows astronauts to access larger living and working areas while significantly reducing launch mass and overall mission costs.
The successful ground test marks an important milestone in the development of advanced space habitation systems and moves India closer to building future space station modules and deep-space human habitats. Such technologies are considered critical for long-duration missions, including lunar and Mars exploration.
Experts say the achievement highlights the growing capabilities of India’s NewSpace ecosystem, where private startups are playing a key role alongside national space agencies.
