India Builds Higher, Travels Faster: World’s Tallest Railway Pier Bridge Completed in Manipur

In a landmark achievement for Indian Railways and a major boost to connectivity in the Northeast, the main structure of the Noney Railway Bridge in Manipur has been successfully completed. With towering piers rising to a height of 141 metres, the bridge has earned recognition as the world’s tallest railway pier bridge, marking a proud moment for Indian engineering.
The bridge is a crucial component of the ambitious Jiribam–Imphal railway line, a strategic infrastructure project aimed at transforming transportation in Manipur. Once the railway line becomes fully operational, it is expected to reduce the arduous 10-hour road journey between Jiribam and Imphal to just 2 to 2.5 hours by train, significantly improving travel efficiency and comfort.
Beyond engineering excellence, the Noney Railway Bridge represents a powerful catalyst for socio-economic development in the region. Enhanced rail connectivity is set to provide faster travel, easier access to major cities, and a strong push to tourism and trade. The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities, improve access to healthcare and education, and elevate the overall quality of daily life for local communities.
