Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Northwest India; Delhi-NCR Air Quality Remains Poor
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall today across several parts of Northwest India, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Punjab and Uttarakhand. The weather agency said the rainfall activity is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas.
According to the IMD, parts of Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive light rainfall and experience thunderstorm activity during the day. These weather conditions may bring temporary relief from dry conditions but could also lead to localized disruptions.
The Met Department has further predicted dense fog conditions in isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, reducing visibility during early morning hours.
In its temperature outlook, the IMD stated that Northwest India is likely to witness a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days, signaling the onset of cooler weather conditions in the region.
Meanwhile, air quality in the Delhi-National Capital Region (Delhi-NCR) continued to remain a concern. Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed that the average Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded at 278 as of 1 PM today, placing it in the ‘poor’ category. Prolonged exposure to such air quality levels may cause respiratory discomfort, particularly among vulnerable groups.
Authorities have advised residents to stay updated with weather bulletins and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to heavy rainfall, fog, and deteriorating air quality.
