Final Electoral Roll Published in Assam After Massive Door-to-Door Verification Drive
Guwahati, February 11:
In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the final electoral roll following the Special Revision (SR) process was officially published today across the state. The revision exercise, conducted through an extensive door-to-door verification campaign, covered all 126 Assembly constituencies.
According to official sources, a total of 29,656 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were engaged in the state-wide exercise to ensure accuracy and transparency in the voters’ list. The large-scale verification drive aimed to update voter details, remove ineligible names, and include newly eligible electors.
The draft electoral roll had earlier been published in December last year, following which claims and objections were invited from the public. After scrutiny and necessary corrections, the final roll has now been made public, clearing the way for the smooth conduct of the Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed media persons that a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will be carried out in Assam after the Assembly elections. He clarified that the SIR process will be undertaken separately and not before the upcoming polls.
Elections to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly are expected to be held in March-April this year, and political activities across the state have already intensified.
The publication of the final electoral roll marks a crucial step in the electoral process, ensuring that the state is prepared for the forthcoming democratic exercise.
