Drone Strike Reported Near U.S. Embassy in Riyadh; No Casualties Confirmed
Riyadh | March 3, 2026 :
Tensions in the Gulf region intensified on Tuesday after the United States Department of State confirmed that its embassy in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, was struck by at least two drones amid the ongoing Iran–U.S.–Israel confrontation.
According to preliminary reports, the drones are believed to have been launched by Iranian-linked forces as part of the wider regional escalation. The Saudi Ministry of Defence stated that a minor fire broke out within the embassy compound following the incident, but the blaze was quickly brought under control. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and structural damage was limited.
Following the strike, the U.S. Embassy issued a “shelter-in-place” advisory for American citizens residing in Riyadh, as well as in the cities of Jeddah and Dhahran, urging them to remain indoors and exercise heightened caution until further notice.
Saudi security forces immediately secured the surrounding area, and investigations into the drone launch and trajectory are currently underway. Officials reiterated that national air defence systems remain on high alert amid growing regional instability.
The reported drone strike comes at a time of heightened tensions across the Middle East, with military exchanges between Iran, the United States and Israel raising concerns of a broader conflict that could impact key diplomatic and economic hubs in the Gulf.
Further updates are awaited as authorities continue to assess the situation.
