Centre–West Bengal Tensions Escalate as Mamata Banerjee Hits Out at PM Modi
Kolkata | March 17:
A fresh political confrontation has emerged between the Centre and the West Bengal government, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launching a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a public gathering, Banerjee criticized the Prime Minister’s recent remarks, describing them as “unbecoming of a Prime Minister.” She accused the central leadership of lowering the tone of political discourse at a crucial time when the country is heading towards important electoral contests.
The West Bengal Chief Minister further alleged that certain administrative actions and decisions are being influenced by political motives ahead of elections. She claimed that such moves are aimed at creating pressure on opposition-ruled states and disrupting their governance.

The remarks come amid heightened political activity across the country, with multiple states preparing for upcoming elections. West Bengal, known for its intense political landscape, has often witnessed sharp exchanges between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
While there has been no immediate response from the Centre on Banerjee’s latest comments, the developments indicate a deepening rift between the state and the central government.
Political observers note that such confrontations are likely to intensify in the coming weeks as election campaigns gather momentum, setting the stage for a high-voltage political battle.
