Centre Considers Delinking Women’s Reservation from Delimitation Process
New Delhi | March 18:
In a significant policy development, the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly considering delinking the implementation of the Women’s Reservation policy from the ongoing delimitation process.
The move is seen as an effort to fast-track the long-pending proposal aimed at increasing women’s representation in legislative bodies. Currently, the implementation of the reservation policy is linked to the delimitation exercise, which has contributed to delays.
Sources indicate that the government may soon convene an all-party meeting to build consensus on the proposed change. The initiative is expected to bring together leaders from across the political spectrum to discuss the way forward on this crucial reform.
The Women’s Reservation policy, widely regarded as a landmark step toward gender equality in politics, seeks to ensure greater participation of women in decision-making roles. Delinking it from delimitation could potentially accelerate its rollout and impact.
If implemented, the move would mark a major shift in India’s electoral and legislative framework, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and women’s empowerment.
