Bahrain Desalination Plant Damaged in Drone Attack, Water Supply at Risk
Sitra, Bahrain – March 9, 2026:
In the aftermath of the Iranian drone strike in Bahrain, a key water desalination plant in the Sitra area was also severely damaged. This facility, which converts seawater into drinking water, is a critical source of potable water for the region.
Authorities have expressed concern that the damage could affect water supply across the Gulf, as Bahrain and other Gulf countries rely heavily on desalination to meet their daily drinking water needs. Emergency teams have been deployed to assess the extent of the damage and begin repairs.
Officials emphasized that measures are being taken to ensure residents continue to have access to safe drinking water, but warned that disruptions may occur if repairs are delayed. The incident adds to growing fears about civilian infrastructure being targeted amid rising tensions in the region.
The Ministry of Water Resources and other agencies are closely monitoring the situation, urging residents to use water judiciously until the plant is fully operational again.
Further updates on the plant and water supply situation are expected in the coming days.
