Opposition Demands Debate on West Asia Crisis

New Delhi | March 13, 2026:
Opposition parties in India have demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament regarding the ongoing West Asia crisis and its possible impact on the country’s economy and energy security. Leaders of several opposition parties, led by Mallikarjun Kharge, have urged the government to clarify the steps being taken to safeguard India’s fuel supplies and control rising prices.

The opposition expressed concern that the escalating conflict in West Asia could disrupt global energy supply chains, which may directly affect India’s imports of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). According to opposition leaders, such disruptions could lead to higher fuel prices, inflation, and potential shortages in the domestic market.

They have also called on the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide a comprehensive statement in Parliament outlining the government’s strategy to manage the economic impact of the crisis.

Opposition members stressed that the issue has serious implications for millions of households and businesses across the country, particularly those dependent on LPG and other petroleum products. They insisted that a parliamentary debate is necessary to ensure transparency and preparedness in dealing with the evolving global situation.

The demand for a discussion is expected to add to the ongoing political debate over India’s energy security and the broader impact of geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
