Women’s Awareness Conference Held in Mysuru by Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Mysuru unit of Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat organized a Women’s Awareness Conference on March 7 at 4 PM at the “Anantha Vanashree” Vanavasi Kalyan Prant Office located in Chamundipuram, Mysuru.
The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Mysuru District Secretary of Grahak Panchayat, Srikantesh, rendered the Grahak Geetha during the inauguration.

Chief guest Dr. Balu Kenchappa G., while addressing the gathering, highlighted the significant role played by women in the economic sector. He emphasized the importance of financial literacy among women and appreciated their careful approach and foresight in financial matters. He stated that women make an immense contribution to the economic progress of the nation.
Karnataka State Women’s Head Dr. Chandrika Kurandwad spoke about the growing influence of advertisements in the media and their impact on people’s lifestyles. She noted that after the COVID period, advertisements on mobile phones and the internet have significantly influenced children, women, and families. She also explained the provisions of consumer protection laws aimed at preventing misleading advertisements and unfair trade practices.

Presiding over the program, Dr. Jyotishankar expressed concern that excessive influence of advertisements is gradually eroding social values. He also pointed out that commercialization in education through advertisements promising unrealistic results is affecting the quality of education and children’s development. He stressed that the portrayal of women in advertisements often has negative social consequences and consumers should remain vigilant.

During the discussion session, participating women raised several questions and received responses from experts present on the stage. Many women also urged Grahak Panchayat to take action against companies that portray women in an inappropriate manner in advertisements or fail to maintain the promised quality of goods and services.
Mysuru District Vice President Vikram Ayyangar delivered the vote of thanks. The program concluded with the recitation of the Shanti Mantra.
