“What is wrong if the rich opt out of guarantee schemes?”: Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar questions

Bengaluru, Feb. 26:

“Do not twist my statement”
“We will announce good development projects”
“₹21 crore guarantee money has gone to accounts of deceased beneficiaries”

“What is wrong if the rich voluntarily give up guarantee schemes? Government employees, those working in big IT companies and many others have told us that they do not need the guarantee schemes,” said Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar.

He was responding to media questions at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.
When asked about some ministers suggesting that wealthy people should step out of the guarantee schemes, he said, “Some affluent people have themselves said they do not require these benefits. They have also spoken about the 200 units of free electricity. We are reviewing the matter.”

“Media should not twist anything. Under no circumstances will any guarantee scheme be stopped. Despite difficulties, we are continuing to provide guarantees. I have also clarified the false claim that development works are not taking place because of guarantee schemes. In this budget, our government will announce good development projects,” he said.

“Even though the BJP-led Central government is not extending any support to the state, we are managing by implementing guarantee schemes. The government is functioning efficiently. About ₹21 crore has been transferred to the accounts of deceased women beneficiaries. We are discussing this issue,” he added.
