SDPI Leader Says He Will Not Sing ‘Vande Mataram,’ Cites Religious Beliefs

Muvattupuzha: SDPI leader Muvattupuzha Ashraf Maulavi has stated that he will not sing “Vande Mataram” under any circumstances, saying the song is against his religious beliefs.
Speaking on the issue, Ashraf Maulavi said that as a citizen of a secular country, he respects the Constitution but cannot render the national song if it conflicts with his faith. He maintained that his position is based on personal religious conviction rather than political opposition.

The remarks have sparked debate on social media and among political circles, with differing views expressed on the balance between individual religious freedom and expressions of national identity. While some supported his right to follow his beliefs, others argued that “Vande Mataram” holds historical and patriotic significance.
