Only Two Nipah Virus Cases Reported in West Bengal Since December: Health Ministry
New Delhi: The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has clarified that only two confirmed cases of Nipah Virus disease have been reported in West Bengal from December last year to date, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday.
The clarification was issued after speculative and incorrect figures regarding Nipah Virus cases were circulated in certain sections of the media, the Ministry said.
According to the official statement, following the confirmation of the two cases, the government initiated prompt and comprehensive public health measures in line with established protocols. As part of the response, 196 contacts linked to the confirmed cases were identified, traced, monitored, and tested. All of them tested negative for the Nipah Virus.
The Ministry further stated that no additional cases of Nipah Virus disease have been detected so far. It added that the situation remains under constant monitoring and that all necessary public health measures are currently in place to prevent any further spread.
Advising caution, the Ministry urged the public and media outlets to rely only on verified information released by official sources and to refrain from spreading unverified or speculative reports that could cause unnecessary panic.
