🏏 MLAs to Receive Complimentary IPL Tickets, Sparks Debate in Karnataka
Hind Samachar News Desk | Bengaluru | March 2026:
Bengaluru: In a recent announcement, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar stated that Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the state will be provided complimentary tickets for matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as select international cricket events.
According to official sources, each MLA is expected to receive a limited number of tickets for high-profile matches, particularly those hosted in Bengaluru. The move is said to be aimed at facilitating elected representatives’ participation in major sporting events and strengthening engagement with public and cultural activities.
However, the decision has triggered widespread discussion and mixed reactions across political and public circles. Critics have raised concerns over the use of privileges for elected representatives, questioning whether such benefits are justified, especially at a time when governance and public welfare remain key priorities.
Supporters of the move argue that such allocations are not unusual and are often extended as part of official protocol during major events, enabling lawmakers to represent their constituencies and interact with citizens in informal settings.
The development has once again brought the spotlight on VIP culture and the privileges associated with public office, with many calling for transparency and accountability in such decisions.
🏟️ As the IPL season continues to draw massive crowds and attention, the issue is likely to remain a topic of public debate in the coming days.
