🏏 Vijay Mallya Reflects on RCB Investment, Says “People Laughed Then”

Hind Samachar News Desk | Bengaluru | March 2026:

Bengaluru: Businessman Vijay Mallya has reflected on his early investment in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), stating that what was once criticized has now turned into one of the most valuable franchises in cricket.

Recalling the early days of the Indian Premier League, Mallya said that many people had mocked his decision to purchase the franchise for ₹450 crore in 2008, calling it a “vanity project.” However, he noted that the same investment is now valued at over ₹16,500 crore, marking a massive growth in brand value over the years.

RCB, despite not winning an IPL title so far, has emerged as one of the most popular and commercially successful teams in the Indian Premier League. The franchise boasts a huge fan base and has featured several global cricket stars, contributing to its strong brand identity.

Mallya’s statement comes at a time when discussions around franchise valuations and the business side of cricket are gaining attention. His remarks highlight how long-term vision and brand building have played a crucial role in transforming RCB into a powerhouse in the IPL ecosystem.

🏟️ The journey of RCB stands as a significant example of how sports investments in India have evolved into high-value assets, reshaping the commercial landscape of cricket.
