Dawood Ibrahim-Linked Properties Sold in Ratnagiri After Years of Failed Auctions

Ratnagiri (Maharashtra) | March 20:
In a significant development, four ancestral land parcels linked to underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim have finally been sold in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district after multiple unsuccessful auction attempts over the years.

According to official sources, a Mumbai-based bidder acquired all four plots for a total amount exceeding ₹10 lakh. The sale was conducted under the provisions of the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA), which allows authorities to seize and dispose of properties linked to individuals involved in illegal activities.

The properties, located in remote areas of Ratnagiri, had previously failed to attract buyers due to several factors. These included their association with Dawood Ibrahim, limited agricultural viability, and lack of infrastructure in the surrounding region. Despite multiple auction attempts in the past, there was little to no response from potential bidders.

Officials stated that the successful sale marks a breakthrough, indicating a shift in buyer sentiment and willingness to invest despite historical associations. The transaction also reflects the government’s continued efforts to dispose of seized assets linked to organized crime in a transparent and lawful manner.

Dawood Ibrahim, one of India’s most wanted fugitives, has long been associated with various criminal activities and is believed to be operating from abroad. The disposal of his linked assets within India is seen as part of broader enforcement actions aimed at dismantling the financial networks connected to such individuals.

This development is expected to encourage authorities to proceed with similar auctions in the future, ensuring that long-pending seized properties are brought into productive use.
