Oil Tanker Carries 1.35 Lakh Tonnes of Crude Oil Safely to Mumbai via Strait of Hormuz

Mumbai | March 14, 2026:
Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, an oil tanker carrying 1.35 lakh metric tonnes of crude oil has safely arrived in Mumbai after navigating the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.

Reports indicate that the vessel temporarily switched off its AIS tracking signal while passing through the region due to security concerns, following a recent increase in attacks on commercial ships.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, with nearly 20% of global oil supply passing through this narrow maritime corridor.

Despite heightened risks and ongoing regional instability, the tanker successfully completed its journey and docked safely in Mumbai, underlining both the resilience and vulnerability of global energy supply chains. Experts say the incident is a stark reminder of how fragile yet essential the world’s energy trade routes truly are.
