Iran’s New Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Says Attempts to Divide Country Have Been Foiled
Tehran | March 12, 2026:
Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, issued his first public statement on Thursday after assuming the country’s top leadership position following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei.
In his statement broadcast by Iranian state media, Mojtaba Khamenei said that Iran has successfully “foiled attempts to divide the country,” emphasizing that the nation remained united despite what he described as external pressure and military aggression.
The new leader praised Iran’s armed forces and security institutions for protecting the country during a period of heightened regional tensions. He also expressed gratitude to the Iranian people for their unity and resilience during what he called a critical moment for the nation.
Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the leadership role after the death of Ali Khamenei in reported strikes linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel. The leadership transition comes at a time when tensions across the Middle East remain extremely high.
In his message, the new Supreme Leader stressed that Iran would continue to defend its sovereignty and national interests. He warned that the country would not allow foreign powers to destabilize the Islamic Republic and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to maintaining internal unity.
The statement marks Mojtaba Khamenei’s first official remarks since taking over the leadership of Iran and signals a continuation of Tehran’s firm stance amid the ongoing regional conflict.
