67,000 Indians Return Home from Conflict-Hit West Asia, Says EAM S. Jaishankar
New Delhi | March 10, 2026:
External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday (March 9) that around 67,000 Indian nationals have returned to India from conflict-affected countries in West Asia as of March 8, amid the continuing regional crisis.
Making a statement in the Upper House, the minister said the Government of India has been closely monitoring the evolving situation in the region and has taken necessary steps to assist Indian citizens stranded in affected areas.
Jaishankar explained that evacuation and travel arrangements were facilitated whenever there were temporary openings in regional airspace, enabling Indian nationals to safely return home. He emphasized that the government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad.
The developments come as tensions in West Asia continue to escalate due to the ongoing conflict involving Israel, Iran and the United States, raising concerns about security and travel disruptions across the region.
The External Affairs Ministry has also been coordinating with Indian embassies and local authorities in the affected countries to provide assistance and facilitate safe passage for those wishing to return to India.
Officials said the government will continue to monitor the situation and take further steps if required to support Indian nationals in the region.
