Power-Shift Buzz Intensifies in Karnataka as D.K. Shivakumar Meets Congress High Command

Bengaluru/New Delhi, February 12, 2026 : Speculation over a possible leadership change in Karnataka’s Congress government gathered momentum on Wednesday after Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met senior party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

The meeting has triggered fresh political chatter in the state, with opposition parties and political observers interpreting it as a sign of potential shifts within the ruling establishment. While the Congress has not officially commented on any leadership change, the timing of the meeting has fueled discussions about internal power dynamics.

Meeting Sparks Political Buzz
Sources within the party described the meeting as a “routine consultation,” stating that Shivakumar frequently engages with the central leadership on governance and organizational matters. However, the visit comes amid ongoing speculation about a possible rotational chief minister arrangement — an issue that has surfaced periodically since the Congress formed the government.

Neither Shivakumar nor the party high command issued a formal statement addressing leadership change rumors. Speaking briefly to reporters, Shivakumar said discussions focused on “state development, upcoming party programmes, and governance priorities.”

Opposition Reacts
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seized the opportunity to question stability within the Congress government, alleging internal rivalry. BJP leaders claimed the meeting indicates “growing friction” within the ruling party, though Congress leaders dismissed such remarks as politically motivated.

Governance Amid Speculation
Despite the political buzz, the state government continues to push forward with key policy initiatives, including infrastructure development, welfare schemes, and investment promotion. Senior Congress leaders have maintained that governance remains the top priority and that there is “no crisis” within the administration.

Political analysts note that internal consultations between state leaders and the party’s central leadership are common, particularly ahead of major electoral cycles or policy announcements. However, in Karnataka’s politically charged environment, such meetings often lead to heightened speculation.

For now, the Congress leadership has remained tight-lipped, leaving room for continued debate over whether the developments signal routine coordination — or the beginning of a significant political shift in Karnataka.
