New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has stirred a nationwide debate by stating that caste today largely exists for political purposes and selfish interests rather than for any genuine social good.
Speaking on the evolving nature of caste in Indian society, Bhagwat remarked that the system, which once had a functional and social basis, has gradually been distorted and is now being used primarily to serve political agendas. According to him, instead of promoting social harmony, caste identities are increasingly being exploited to divide society, especially during elections.
He emphasized that caste-based politics poses a serious challenge to social unity and national integration. Bhagwat argued that for India to progress as an equitable and united nation, society must move beyond rigid caste identities and focus on shared values and collective responsibility.
