Namma Metro Fares to Increase from February 9, Commuters to Pay ₹1–₹5 More per Ride

Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s Namma Metro is set to become slightly more expensive for daily commuters, with fares scheduled to increase by around 5 per cent from February 9. Under an automatic annual fare revision formula, ticket prices across various fare slabs will rise by ₹1 to ₹5 per journey.

The move comes less than a year after a major fare hike of up to 71 per cent, which had triggered widespread public backlash and criticism from commuters and citizen groups. Despite the earlier protests, the latest revision has been implemented as part of the pre-approved fare adjustment mechanism.

According to officials, both the minimum and maximum fares are expected to increase, adding to the cost burden of daily travel for thousands of office-goers, students, and regular metro users. While authorities maintain that periodic fare revisions are necessary to manage rising operational and maintenance costs, concerns over affordability and service quality continue to be raised.

Commuters have expressed mixed reactions, with many questioning the timing of the hike and calling for improved frequency, better connectivity, and enhanced facilities in return for higher fares.
