New Delhi: Legendary former India captain Kapil Dev has expressed strong disappointment over Pakistan’s decision to boycott their group-stage match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The much-anticipated India–Pakistan clash was scheduled to be played on February 15, but Pakistan has confirmed it will not take the field for the high-voltage encounter despite participating in the tournament.

Reacting to the development, Kapil Dev cautioned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that such a move could have serious consequences for Pakistan cricket, particularly its global reputation. He emphasized that cricket should remain above politics and that fans across the world look forward to contests between traditional rivals like India and Pakistan.

The former World Cup–winning captain pointed out that bilateral and tournament matches between the two nations are among the biggest attractions in world cricket, generating massive interest, viewership, and goodwill for the sport. According to Kapil Dev, choosing to boycott a marquee match on a global stage like the T20 World Cup sends the wrong message to the international cricketing community.

Pakistan’s decision has sparked widespread debate among former cricketers and fans, many of whom believe the move undermines the spirit of international sport. While the PCB has reiterated its participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, the absence from the India fixture could also have competitive and commercial implications for the tournament.

The ICC has not yet issued a detailed response on how the boycott will affect the group standings and match points. Meanwhile, calls are growing for cricket boards to resolve differences through dialogue and ensure that the game remains a unifying force rather than a point of division.
