10 Civilians Killed in Firing by Pakistani Security Forces in Balochistan: Rights Group
Islamabad: A leading human rights organisation in Pakistan has reported that at least 10 civilians were killed after Pakistani security forces opened fire on a passenger vehicle near Cadet College in Nushki district of Balochistan on Monday.
Condemning the incident, Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) described the firing on unarmed civilians as unlawful and termed it a serious violation of fundamental human rights. The organisation demanded accountability and an independent investigation into the incident.
BVJ further stated that the escalation of violence under ongoing Pakistani military operations has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the civilian population across Balochistan.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) highlighted a sharp rise in violence against civilians in the province. According to the council, 598 killings were reported in Balochistan last year, most of which were allegedly carried out by Pakistani security forces.
In its findings, the HRCB documented that targeted killings accounted for 165 cases, followed by 104 custodial killings, while 66 cases involved bodies discovered under unclear circumstances.
The human rights groups have urged the Pakistani authorities to ensure the protection of civilians and uphold international human rights standards in the region.
